Biography
With a PhD in law from the University of Zurich, courses in the Psychology of Communication and in intercultural Communication, Dr. Christa Uehlinger is an independent consultant in communication and intercultural management, providing coaching, training and consulting. She is an experienced intercultural professional, has lived and worked in more than 12 European countries, including Central and Eastern Europe.
Christa was a senior consultant with the Zurich office of the Burson-Marsteller public relations and public affairs company, where her international activities ranged from strategic consulting, development of communication strategies and project management to crisis management and crisis and media training.
Prior to this, Dr. Christa Uehlinger was Head of Corporate Communications with the European Division of Winterthur Insurance, Switzerland. Here she built up a communications department covering 12 countries, developed and implemented communication strategies and action plans – including employee communications, crisis management, media relations, events and sponsoring – and co-ordinated support to subsidiaries, trained and coached company executives, and was responsible for departmental finance, budget and controlling, including the introduction of budget controls. This work included responsibility for communication and training in M&As in Poland and the UK as well as in start-ups in the Czech Republic and Hungary.
Previously Christa held jobs with ABB European headquarters in Brussels, with the Norton Rose law firm in London and with the Schweizerische Kreditanstalt (SKA) in Zurich, Switzerland.
This combined international experience has given her skills and Know-how in strategic corporate communications with a special emphasis on employee communication and diversity management. She specialised in communication in change processes, reorganisation and M&As. Christa is a strong believer that integrating soft and hard factors in business management can create value and lead to sustainable competitive advantages.
Countries she has worked in include Spain, Portugal, Italy, the UK, Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia, in addition to her native Switzerland. While working Europe-wide, she specialised in the European Community, a region which fascinates her a lot. She speaks German, English, French and has basic knowledge of Italian.
Dr. Christa Uehlinger is a lecturer in intercultural communications at the University of Applied Sciences, Winterthur, Switzerland, and in corporate communications at the University of Applied Sciences, Chur, Switzerland. Her work has been published in Switzerland, Austria and the UK.
